BENEFITS OF JEHOVAH RULE RESTORED
(the late) William Pascoe Goard
ONE feels well nigh helpless in approaching this matter because of the false impressions which have been created by later generations of theologians in regard to the meaning of the national messages of the Scriptures.
Assuming that the Israel nation is gone, that the church alone remains and that the foreknowledge of God realised that such would be the case when the prophecies were given to inspired men, the theologians of later generations have striven to make the national and material messages to fit an ecclesiastical and spiritual condition of affairs. The result has been disastrous. The words of Holy Writ have been assumed to mean anything but that which the dictionary would assure us they do mean. A vague spiritual meaning has been assumed where the most matter-of-fact statements of material fact have been intended.
On the other hand, the modern scholar assuming that if there ever was such an historical Israel as the Scriptures state: and if that Israel ever had such an experience as the Scripture would lead us to believe, then both Israel and the experience narrated as that of Israel have passed away. As to national matters being transformed into spiritual messages, every principle of scholarship would cry out against such a transformation of plain statements. But as there seems to them to be no such Israel as the prophecies foretold, it seems clear to them that the prophecies were never intended to forecast such a people nor such a set of facts connected with them for modern days. Or if they did, then manifestly, as Dr Driver has come near saying, these prophecies have never been fulfilled.
So there is a barrier of unwarranted prejudice raised in the minds of both Evangelical and Modernist as to the plain meaning and the obvious truth of the prophecies concerning Israel in the present days.
We must face these matters, however, with courage, knowing that with the sincere in heart the truth will win its place. Israel is present today, a going and powerful organisation, as it ever was in history.
The prophecies referring to Israel in the latter days are rnatter-of-fact national messages to our race and nations. They are not primarily ecclesiastical: they are messages to the king; his ministers; the elders, or lords; and to the people of Britain, the U.S.A. and other Israel nations. They deal with national administration; and with land titles; with trade and commerce; with finance; with administration of justice; expansion of the boundaries of the Kingdom in the realm of the heathen world and to the uttermost parts of the earth; with taking possession of and developing the waste heritages of the earth. They deal with ethics and morals in national life and administration. All these things are plain for every reader of the prophecies to see. Only the false assumption that the people of whom the prophets wrote and spoke had disappeared has rnade possible the egregious comedy of errors into which both schools have fallen. It is, however, a comedy which has been translated to the tragedy of the age in the manifest results of such fatal systems of error.
Israel exists. The messages are plain, and are addressed to the Israel of today, which is the nation and company of nations, plus the Great People of the Celto-Saxon world, into which Israel has grown, according to the very prophecies of which we are speaking; i.e. the nations of the Celto-Saxon people, divided into the British Commonwealth (as it was), and the U.S.A.
Let Britain and America awake to the fact that Jehovah is still their King; that the House of David is His appointed representative in Israel for ever; that the Divine Constitution still runs in Israel; that disobedience to it brings untold and perpetual suffering in the physical, mental and spiritual departments of individual and national life; but that blessings untold await us when we awaken to the glorious fact, and realign ourselves nationally and individually under the Divine national rule.
What are the benefits of the Jehovah rule? These have never changed for a moment. What they were at the beginning, they are now, and shall be to the end.
But it is objected, the benefits are not manifest in our national experience. Precisely! Because of the fact that the rule is not manifest in our national life.
We have become obsessed with the determination to establish selfrule. What a great shout went up from all the best-intentioned of our peoples when President Wilson emphasised with all the strength of the Great People, with the representation of which he was clothed, the doctrine of self-determination.
It sounded greatly. It let loose a spirit of self-seeking among certain classes which caused great trouble to responsible heads of administrations. But it illustrates the false ideal cherished by the best-intentioned when self-determination is advance instead of Divine determination.
The Divine rule is not manifest among us, but instead we are advocating and setting up self-rule. One is the rule of God; the other is the attempted self-rule of men, and that not of the best of men. For democracy cannot reach higher than the mean of the electorate and that will always be found halfway between the most capable and the most incapable, which constitute the highest and the lowest points of the scale; or is what we term "the average."
Let us make no,mistake. It is ours to re-establish Divine rule. And that according to the written constitution contained in the Bible, which is the greatest administrative authority in the world; for it is, indeed, the Word of God.
What, then, we ask again, are the benefits of Divine rule? First: perfect national organisation. The organisation consists of: Jehovah, the King and lawgiver, in the centre. The priestly minister of the nation camped around His tabernacle. The citizens of Israel, by their families, in their tribes, under their tribal standards; organised in four brigades of tribes; each bearing the brigade standard; the whole formed into the square of the Israel camp.
This is our national organisation as registered in the Bible, in the roster of the Kingdom of Heaven. This is the form of the Kingdom of God on earth, having its heart nationally, geographically and administratively in Israel-Britain and her extensions overseas.
It is a wonderful fact, if we can catch the reality of it. This is an organisation which exists, and which dominates the affairs of the world to this day, and shall more completely dominate them as the decades pass. We say decades, for we are speeding through the affairs of men and nations more rapidly now in decades and years than our fathers did up to the end of the Victorian era in centuries. And every decade throws Israel-Britain and Israel-Arnerica to the fore more than centuries have done in the past.
The nations of the world are invited to join the Kingdom-nation of the Lord, and the alternative is expressed in no uncertain terms: "The nation that will not serve (with) Thee shall perish; it shall be utterly wasted."
The time is come when Jehovah the God of Israel Who shall be called "the God of the whole earth" will not permit rival administrations in the earth, The Great Day of God Almighty, now at hand, will settle that matter for ever.
One constitution shall apply among all nations. It is, we apprehend, of this phase of the rnatter that our Lord declared "Elias truly shall first come and restore all things. " We are aware of the counter that Elias already came in the person of John the Baptist. This, of course, is the case, as our Lord declares it to be. But manifestly this is not the coming referred to; for John the Baptist, while he did introduce the Christ, at that time restored nothing, but was "wiped out" by the opposition. When he fulfils the coming spoken of by our Lord he will "restore all things."
Till that time then, Heaven must receive or retain our Lord, as the Holy Ghost declared through the lips of St. Peter at Pentecost; "Whom the heavens must receive until the time of the restitution of all things... " By every sign we know that the era of the restoration is at hand.
We may look, then, for a great statesman or political reformer preaching the Kingdom of Heaven, who will lead the nation back to the Divine law as it is written in the Bible.
Let no man say that the law as written in the Bible is a srnall thing, fit only for a primitive people. Such a person will but show the fact that he is ignorant of the character, scope, and universal applicability of the Divine law. The Divine law as given in the Bible is on a par with the laws of nature. They suit every age and every clime, and every set of circumstances in every kingdom of the world. This law shall be set up in Israel, and shall be extended to every nation which comes into the Israel Kingdom.
Thus "the law shall go forth from Zion" in very deed and truth. The world will then present one united Kingdom. No one nation shall rule over another, but all shall be under the direct rule of Jehovah the God of Israel, under the administration of the House of David.
In the Kingdom, when the law is established, there shall be abundance of food of all kinds.
"THE EARTH SHALL YIELD TO YOU HER STRENGTH."
There is a foreshadowing of this in Covent Garden Market and the other markets of London. To these markets there come from the ends of the earth contributions from every clime of the fruits and flesh of the earth. From far Australia and New Zealand: mutton, butter, eggs, and so forth. From distant Canada: wheat, beef, fruits, and so forth. From Palestine, the land of our fathers: oranges, pomegranates, etc. From Arabia: dates and other fruits. From Algiers: vegetables, fruits and flowers. From Central America and the South: citric fruits, bananas, and so on. From Spain: raisins, nuts, and so forth. From Argentina: wheat, beef, mutton, and so forth. Thus all the earth contributes to the table of the citizen of the heart of the Kingdom. When the Kingdom is fully established, Jehovah declares "I will lay no reproach of famine upon you. " Mark what the Lord says, "the reproach of famine. " Famine can only come to those who have thrown off the co-partnership with Jehovah.
"I WILL TAKE SICKNESS AWAY FROM THE MIDST OF THEE."
Medical research into the biological sources of disease constitutes a splendid field of activity; and the self-sacrifice and industry of the medical profession is beyond praise. But this is to look in the wrong direction.
The theologian should have instructed the nation long ago in the cause and the meaning of sickness in Israel. He would have found it in the national covenant in chapter 26 of Leviticus: "I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. " Read also the whole of this great chapter.
Sickness in Israel is because of rebellion in Israel against the Jehovah rule. Once restore the Jehovah rule, as a national act, and then comes the promise "I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. "
We have been going quietly along with our ministry, not strongly featuring the doctrine of Kingdom healing as the privilege of those whose heart is to obey the Lord. In connection with that ministry there have been such outstanding examples of those who have tested the Lord in this regard, and have been healed, that there can be no question as to the fact that we have in our hands a principle potent to heal the sick and to remove sickness from amongst us, waiting for national repentance to come into operation.
The following may be noted among many cases, and the reader could go and interview those who have been healed. Paralysis of twenty-four years' standing instantly healed at home, alone with God.
Deafness of many years' standing suddenly healed in the presence of a large congregation, where instructional lectures (not on Divine healing) were being given in a Congregational Church by clergymen and ministers of various denominations.
Pernicious anaemia, as a result of prayer and laying on of hands at home by a Church of England clergyman and the writer. Infantile paralysis of many years' standing healed in a public service one Sunday morning in the presence of many hundreds of people. The healing is permanent, as years of active life since have shown.
Restoration of sight, so far gone as to prevent reading even with the aid of the strongest lenses, and sight steadily passing away. Healed instantly in the presence of the home congregation of a Baptist church. For years since, the young lady has been doing clerical work without the aid of glasses.
And so on. There is a principle infinitely powerful to heal in our hands, in our Kingdom administration. It is as unknown to the majority of us as electricity was to our fathers. Simply flashes of light, and power appearing at times, which awoke the the surprise and dread of our fathers. But we may use it when we will to banish sickness from our homes and land. The condition which shall set in full operation that power must be met by the King, Lords, and Commons; and the act must be the restoration of the Jehovah reign in Israel-Britain and Israel-America.
When the nation acts, God will act, and sickness will be astonishment only.
Irnmunity in war.
There can be no immunity from war until all nations shall have united to become "the Kingdom of our God and of His Christ."
But there will be irnrnunity in war.
When, at the beginning of our history, under Joshua, men were killed in battle in our Israel armies, a royal commission immediately was appointed to enquire who had sinned. The sin of Achan brought death to the Israel ranks. The sin was rebellion against the direct order of the Jehovah administration. When the people obeyed the voice of the Lord, their wars were bloodless to themselves.
The national message of Jehovah to Israel is that her wars shall still be bloodless to herself if she will hear and obey the voice of her God.
What proof have we?
In the Boer war, certain villages sent a company in a western Canadian battalion, which bore the brunt with others of the hottest of the fighting. In that battalion the death-rate was high. In a certain company of that battalion went thirty-six men from one congregation. Special prayer was organised to follow the boys, on the line of the national promises and covenant, which that congregation had been taught to know and believe. The challenge of the faith of the parents followed the boys with prayer to God. Not one of the thirty-six fell. The whole contingent from a neighbouring village in the same company fell. They fought shoulder to shoulder.
From the church of the same pastor there went sixteen into the first enlistment for the Great War. All were boys from one church. Prayer was organised to follow them. They were in all the branches of the Service and fought to the end of the war. Not one of them fell.
During the "flu" epidemic, still more deadly than the war, prayer was organised and the congregation came through unbroken by death.
What happened in these cases will happen to the whole nation and race when the actual Kingship of Jehovah is restored.
This is the teaching of Jesus our Saviour.
